On the way home from work last night I was behind an S60 just cruising along when an Aveo cut him off then slammed on his brakes for absolutely no reason. As the Volvo panic braked I noticed that the lights were two stage, normal...then bright ass panic red. I assume it was the rear fogs activating, but I didn't think they'd be on both sides. Pretty neat, I didn't realize that was a thing. I'd seen the blinking third light or the auto hazards for panic stops before, but this was way better than those IMO.
I always find it odd when cars have these little features I've never seen before even though I read about cars daily.

7 Series has them too, if I recall. They made a big deal out of it.

I'm pretty sure that was his City Safety (the auto braking) working. It is at first like "OK.. Let's gently stop" then it goes full on "FUCK!!! WE MUST STOP NOW!!!!"
Side note on rear fog light: my dad got stopped for using his because the officer thought he had a taillight out. Damn America!

Volvo does love their safety advances. They keep holding those damned 3 point seat belts over everyone too.

Even the older ones do. Our E46 has it.

I remember my dad telling me about flashing brake lights when ABS activated on cars when ABS first came out, not sure why it didn't stick around. I think it was on the Olds Toronado if I remember correctly.

That's just such a beautiful car, especially at night with the arched LEDs in the back. Volvo's safety features (and comfy seats) make it a contender for my next car. I'll be taking a hard look at these in a few years when they come down into my price range

And, like me, I'm sure you bought the Euro version headlight switch so that you could activate your rear fogs at will. They're probably the most effective and satisfying way to deal with tailgaters.

My 06' Astra does that. I know it is safe, but I hate it for irrational reasons.

Yep. Lots of European cars have or are beginning to get this safety feature. Some even go so far as flashing rapidly for a few seconds and then staying bright. Should be standard on all cars if you ask me.

The rear fogs are so bright. I didn't buy it though, I just cut the tabs off. Free mods ftw.

Yeah, I know about that mod but for some reason I wanted the euro switch with the little fog light icon. Waste of money but whatever. BTW, got the GP thunders installed for the cornering lights. What a difference! They match the LUX really well!

The third brake light should be the o shit o meter where it starts out in the middle with modest intensity for light to avg braking and then move out farther and brighter as the intensity increases.
